Where media science meets the creator economy

Content Strategy is one of the fastest-evolving roles in marketing. It's moved far beyond "write blogs" — senior content strategists now architect entire content ecosystems: editorial frameworks, influencer programmes, community platforms, and algorithmic content systems.

Your UvA training is directly applicable here. The programme's modules on influencer marketing, social media engagement, algorithms, and persuasive design are exactly what content strategists build their careers on. You understand why content spreads, how platforms amplify, and what drives authentic engagement at a theoretical level.

The Dutch influencer economy is one of Europe's most developed. Amsterdam is home to major influencer agencies, content studios, and platform offices (TikTok NL, Netflix, Spotify). The demand for people who can bridge science and creative strategy is accelerating as brands invest more in owned and earned media.

This path also has the highest transfer potential — content skills cross into growth, brand, and corporate communication with ease. Many content leaders end up as CMOs by accumulating this breadth.

Start creating publicly right now
Pick one platform and post consistently for 3 months. Document what you learn in your MSc. Apply your persuasion knowledge to your own content. A growing audience is the most credible portfolio you can build.
02 — This semester
Thesis on influencer credibility or algorithmic reach
Your MSc covers influencer marketing academically — make your thesis a study that content teams and platform companies would actually want to read. Sponsorship disclosure effects, parasocial influence, algorithm-human interaction — all highly valued.
03 — Internship target
Creative agency or platform office
